Hey guys! Sorry that this one is quite late, the usual Wednesday was too wacky for me to sneak in the time for a report. I don't think Thursday even existed this week either so Friday morning will have to do!

This past week I was still just working through the last parts of the Quetzal sex and dipping my talons into the nine-tailed fox's scene, which is about 1/3 finished and full of some real guilty pleasures for me... But other than that, there's nothing too major to update on. I will take the time instead to share a bit about the nine-tailed fox character who will show up in the Cloud Forest.

Yaohu (or "Kyuubi", as he was originally called) was first teased waaaay back in February on Twitter along with the first screenshot of the Editor feature. Perhaps unsurprisingly, people really liked that one! The concept of the character centers around his dominating presence and sexuality, with much of his treacherous personality traits inspired by the folklore of northern Chinese fox spirits. These stories of deceitful and conniving demon foxes had a common theme that I did not expect to find:
Fox spirits are sexy!

No no, before you say anything, this isn't just my very correct opinion! Sex really does play a significant role in ancient tales of foxes. These spirits would frequently get sexual with whoever they desired, male or female, in exchange for wealth, power, or simply as coercion to stop them from wreaking havoc and playing pranks. It's all-too-easy to take this as a sign that people have been horny for foxes since the dawn of time, and we could get into a number of reasons why that isn't necessarily the meaning of these themes, but I won't subject you guys to that wall of text when this... oh yeah, it was supposed to be a progress report!

(But if I've piqued your interest in Chinese fox mythology, I recommend searching for "Cult of the Fox" - a fantastic yet expensive book covering this very topic.)

Back to our friend Kyuubi. Or was his name Hushen? Hmm... The lordly fox of the forest flopped between a handful of titles during the different stages of planning his character, but Yaohu is his actual name. Yaohu, a white and semi-feral fox with nine flaming tails, guards the final summit of the Feran Caldera's plateau. He has made a hundred-year vow to scorch and bewitch any who attempt to trespass without proving their mettle and good-nature. He is the culminating boss before the next build's finale - please try your best when you finally get to meet him!

A word of caution: show a single crack in your resolve and you may just find yourself pinned beneath his flaming paws, unable to shake the invasive urge to submit to his wishes. This paw-focused scene involves some mind-control and domination aspects as teased in that initial post long ago, as Yaohu's magic will twist through your thoughts. Quite a love-letter to the legends he is based upon.
